Moving closer to new signage for the metro

The metro network is undergoing an ambitious modernisation programme. This includes the arrival of new vehicles on the network - the M7s - as well as the creation of a new depot at Erasme and the installation of a new signalling system that will make it possible to increase frequencies while making the network safer.

In 2021, the installation of this new signalling system, known as "CBTC" - for Communications-Based Train Control system - began at the Erasme depot and on Boa trains. This installation will continue in 2022 along the line, on the ground, and on the older metro models. It will eventually enable an increase in frequency on lines 1 and 5, to reach an interval of 2 minutes between vehicles on the shared section between Merode and Gare de l'Ouest.
